Yujiro Omachi

Yujiro Omachi was born in Kobe in 1959 and Joined Japan Coast Guard twenty years later, in 1979.

He began his service as a patrol craft crewman of the Himeji Coast Guard Station. Since then he has transferred to stations in the 5th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters and the Tanabe, Kasumi, Kobe Coast Guard Offices, working in search-and-rescue operations and the maintenance of maritime order.

He created his first picture-story show, “Keep the Sea Clean: Ichiro and the Empty Cans,” in 1996. The first version of “Marin the Turtle's Big Adventure” came out a few years later, in 2000. Concerned with the growing problem of marine pollution from plastic waste (especially microplastics), Yujiro revised “Marin the Turtle's Big Adventure” in 2019. Over the years he has used his talents as a watercolorist to create not only picture-story show packs, but also leaflets and posters to promote Japan Coast Guard activities in the fields of maritime safety and security, the prevention of maritime crimes, and the promotion of the Japan Coast Guard missions. He has completed over 60 official works.
